YOU HAVE BEEN HERE SOMETIME
You Have Been Here Sometime is an artful look into the mind of L.A.-based designer David John. Using typography to add personal emphasis, John spotlights consistently inspiring works of interest, as well as his engaging dialogues with designers, artists, and factotums. To browse the site feels a bit like a going on a thoughtful tour of the internet's ever-reaching interiors -- take a look.
TEENAGE FILM BLOG
Based on Jon Savage's history of youth culture, Teenage is an in-progress and highly promising documentary about teens of yore, dating back to the early 20th century. The accompanying blog, edited by Kelly Rakowski, is a treasure trove of all that is totally teen, taking the form of a fanzine and featuring revealing, "dear diary"-esque guest posts of personal photos and soundtracks. Visit the blog and if you're in New York, check out their screening this Friday at the Anthology Film Archives for the film festival Migrating Forms.
THE MAKERS PROJECT
For The Makers Project, Brooklyn-based photographer Jennifer Causey documents and interviews area artisans as they engage in their tactile fields of work. Among the vivid profiles featured so far are the coffee enthusiasts of Blue Bottle, the chandelier makers of Pelle Designs, and most recently the designer of charming label Wiksten. Meet all of the 16 makers currently on the site and for updates on new additions, follow The Makers Project on Twitter.

Space 15 Twenty is pleased to present Input : Output, a custom audio and curated lifestyle pop-up shop. Inspired by a love of industrial design and analog equipment, the shop will premiere handmade audio components designed by musician / furniture designer Philip Sumner and Kevin Carney, founder of The Generic Man and Mohawk General Store. "The idea is to have a workshop where Philip and I will test, audition, and create retro-styled speakers and tube amps," says Carney. "While wearing white lab coats, of course."
Hitting it off in the vintage audio section of Carney's store, the two immediately imagined creating their own line of products. "Philip has a wood shop and we both have collections of classic audio equipment, so we decided to give it a go," Carney says. "I kept looking for a space to do a sound installation for the public to experience, and here we are...doing it!" For 45 days, the two will experiment developing prototypes in a fishbowl-type workshop open to onlookers who can place custom orders. "We already have some designs completed, like a full range paper cone 3" driver in a wood enclosure," says Carney. "But the main reason for using this space is to come up with more ideas."
To create a living landscape for the sound, the space houses furniture from Amsterdam Modern, lamps from Niche Modern, and will host music events programmed by Sumner and Carney. "There will be in-store performances featuring bands and DJs the way they were meant to be heard, through analog equipment," says Carney. The entire project will also be photographed by Ramon Felix, and published into a book that will be designed by Ill Studio in Paris.

Input : Output's grand opening will be this Friday, May 20, from 7-11pm. The event will feature musical selections from special guests David Holmes, Eddie Ruscha, Eug, and Nitedog.
A conceptual culture quarterly, the L.A.-based Work Mag presents fashion, design, and much more. Featuring work from emerging and established artists alike, the publication supports those who have a unique approach and march to their own beat.

It might be hard to imagine someone making art from tape designed for construction sites. But with the simple idea of layering, that’s exactly what artist Megan Geckler does. After many rolls of flagging tape, and many more man-hours, her immersive installations emerge. Echoing the lines of interiors with strands of flagging tape, her work renders optical illusions that are not only unique to each location but also create spaces that are hard to resist entering. “Architecture is made to be experienced, walked through,” Geckler says. And accordingly, her work transforms ordinary spaces into playful, interactive environments.
“If you had told me that I would be living in Los Angeles while I was on the east coast, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Geckler says. Raised in Pennsylvania, the thirty-five-year-old artist attended Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art before heading west to pursue sculpture in Claremont’s MFA program. Since then, Geckler has exhibited throughout the Los Angeles area with the eye-catching geometric patterns of her labor-intensive installations. “I’ve been working with flagging tape since 1999, and have worked with other materials along the way, such as PVC, zip ties, adhesive vinyl, and many other commercial plastics,” Geckler says. “Though I keep coming back to flagging tape over and over.”
This month, Space 15 Twenty is pleased to present “Seeing Thoughts in Repeat,” an exclusive site-specific installation by the artist. Named after a lyric from Neon Indian’s “Deadbeat Summer,” the installation is located in the indoor area just outside the Urban Outfitters entrance on Ivar Avenue. Beginning at the storefront’s neon lettering, Geckler’s distinctive flagging tape is stretched along the ceiling beams and down the windows of the façade on Ivar, creating a bright set of curtains whose colors shift with the daylight. “I love the translucency of the material,” notes Geckler. “It appears to glow when backlit.”
“Seeing Thoughts in Repeat” is on display now through June. Check out the time-lapse video of the installation and read an interview with the artist here.

THE TALENT SHOW
From television's reality shows and talent competitions to Facebook and Twitter status updates, the division between private lives and public theater has never been more unclear. MoMA PS1's new exhibit The Talent Show is inspired by this conundrum of exhibitionism, further complicated by governments that increasingly assert the power of surveillance. Organized by the Walker Art Center, The Talent Show includes contemporary works by art stars Sophie Calle, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Piero Manzoni, and many more. The exhibition closes April 4.
MOMUS - THE THUNDERCLOWN
Following his Vampire Weekend remix, everyone's favorite eye-patch-wearing musician Momus announced he'll be releasing a new four-song 7", The Thunderclown. Scheduled to come out early next year, the record will be produced by Tona Serenad, a Swedish label that specializes in one-offs and limited editions. The vinyl EP isn't available for pre-order yet but he's posted preview videos for each of the tracks. Follow Momus's Tumblr for updates on the ordering as well as his highly entertaining adventures in Japan.
DAY JOB
Despite producing brilliant jingles for businesses in Marfa, TX, Nina Katchadourian is merely a recreational musician and primarily an interdisciplinary artist. She takes on curating as well with Day Job, an exhibition at The Drawing Center featuring twenty-three emerging artists with second professions to stay afloat. The occupations vary from a museum guard to the scenic artist for "One Life To Live," and the work can't help but reflect each artist's day job -- whether it's created in resistance to it, inspired by it, or while working it. Day Job is open now until February 3.

Though sounding a lot like "feel more," the menswear label and newly opened boutique Feal Mor is apparently named after a Breton phrase meaning "of the sea." "It means no land, no borders," says founder J.P. Plunier, and accordingly, the first pirates are believed to have hailed from Brittany. This background accounts for everything from the line's staple--Breton stripe sweaters--to particular details like skull-and-crossbones buttons.
Inspired by Brittany's history of cycling, the current fall / winter collection is called "SOB," short for "sailors on bikes." Plunier explains, "No one wants to drink and drive so instead we have drunks on bikes." Check out the label's new flagship store and current collection at the Pep Up Party tomorrow -- 6:30PM - 11PM at 165 S. La Brea. Co-hosted by the Everloving record label--of which Plunier is a partner--the party will include DJ sets, cocktails, sweets & much more. RSVP to info@everloving.com.

Based in Los Angeles, Jimmy Tamborello makes experimental electronic music under the handle Dntel. Despite his other projects, like a Dublab radio show and a little band called The Postal Service, he's managed to come out with two sparkly new companion EPs, After Parties 1 and After Parties 2.
Sub Pop is selling each individually for $10 or a bargain $16 together. Pick up the bundle here.

Public Collectors is a Chicago-based archival project run by Marc Fisher, of Temporary Services fame. Believing many cultural artifacts go uncollected by libraries, museums, and other institutions, Public Collectors asks individuals to share their amassed ephemera for an all-encompassing and freely accessible collection.
Paper Blog is a recently-released printed piece that is available now through Half Letter Press. This edition of 170 pulls from the best posts on Public Collectors' Tumblr between September 2009 and November 2010. Supplemented with a short caption explaining where the imagery came from, sample contents include: a flyer for a missing hat, found childrens homework, illustrations from books on evolution, and much more. The zine is also "printed on ivory color paper with a fancy metallic gold cover."

British filmmaker Peter Greenaway has created a handful of odd and remarkable films since 1980's The Falls. A three-hour collection of 92 flight-related shorts, the film was his first feature-length production and highly suggestive of the brilliant, provocative work he would go on to make.
In more recent years, Greenaway has taken a performative turn, in gigs as a VJ as well as video installation artist, that often incorporate projectors, lasers, and more. Taking an interest in classical and Renaissance painting, he began featuring seminal works in immersive installations for his series Ten Classic Paintings Revisited. Kitsch and yet critically acclaimed, the series has created a splashy dialogue about the seemingly dated medium and its relation to modern technology.
The first of these digital projects to show stateside, Leonardo's Last Supper: A Vision of Peter Greenaway, has come to NYC's Park Avenue Armory. Superimposing digital projections and the music of Marco Robino on a recreation of the painting, the 45-minute "remix" of daVinci's masterwork is open now until January 6.
